Flipbook
In this assignment, the goal was to make a flip book by taking hundreds of images and having a low frame rate so that the video has a stop-motion animation feel to it. I needed to make a story through the pictures I take while adding an intro or outro screen and adding music or a voice over. The intention of the scene was to have Mario drive around the room in his go-kart and explore the room by driving around the makeshift course that is made with varying items around the room. I used natural lighting and other light sources to make sure the lighting was sufficient in the scene. I also used the thinnest fish line I owned to take pictures of Mario in the air. I did this by tying a knot around Mario and holding up the string so that it gave the illusion that Mario was airborne. The focal point of the images and overall video was Mario in his go-kart because the story was centered around him driving around the room and exploring the course. I felt I did draw the viewer's eye because Mario is red and the color popped out from the colors in the background. Also, the camera was focused on Mario so the background was blurred compared to Mario. What I could have done differently was make the video outside so that the images had better lighting and always have a solid base to take pictures on, because the free hand images had some blur to them.
Hyper-Realism
In this assignment, the goal was to make a hyper realistic with at least two original images. I was supposed to make the image as realistic as possible using technics I learned in photoshop, videos, and class. I was to make a single image made from multiple other original images in a way that was not possible but looking very realistic, basically a false reality. What I wanted from my scene was a man holding up a giant shoe with all his might. Almost like a David vs. Goliath scene were the smaller being is standing up against the much larger and powerful being. I used layer masks so that the person was the only thing visible in the image and then used the original image of the shoe taking a step. I then used the brush tool so that it looked like the shoe was casting a large shadow over the person and floor surrounding him. The focal point was the person and the shoe because it shows where the action of the scene is happening. Some issues I came up on were the inability to make the tow images flow together well in a way that the images don't look like they come from two different images.
Panorama
In this assignment, the goal was to make a panorama image by stitching together images across a range of area. I really wanted to make the light rays pop out and give good contrast to the sky and clouds. I also wanted to make sure that the nature and buildings on the ground were visible and not overtaken by the light of the rays. In order to do this I made the images that I stitched together HDR images. This way I was able to bring out the highlights and shadows in a much more complimentary and pleasing way. I think I did draw the viewer's eye because the light rays would be the focal point and they would lead down to the nature and buildings on the ground. Nothing dominated the image too heavily and everything was visually pleasing to the eye. I made sure to use layer masks on each image so that they would blend in together nicely and there would be no visible streaks or overlap. Also, I used the lasso tool to make the sky complete. There was empty pixels at the top of the clouds so I used the lasso tool to fill it in.
HDRI
In this assignment, the goal was to take an HDR image using one underexposed, one neutral, and one overexposed image of the same image and merging them together to get better values and editing capabilities; especially when it came to highlights and shadows. I was supposed to make an image using HDR images and RAW to make a photo where I edited the shadows and highlights to make a good contrast and pleasing image to the eye. The intended purpose of my image was to make palm trees and the street lead the viewer's eye down the image using lines. This didn't work out as well as I was hoping because there is no focal point or subject that would make this image interesting. It's a plain photo that also has unpleasant lighting. The contrast isn't very good and the whole image feels oversaturated and too bright. I can fix this by making adjustments to my position and during the time I take the picture. It was late afternoon so the lighting was very bright and taking a picture with the sun included consumed the whole photo. The photos weren't contrasting enough to make a good HDR image so everything was too bright. I need to set the brackets larger so that they can get the shadows along with the highlights.
Things
In this assignment, the goal was to take a picture of an everyday item. I decided to use my hat as the focal point and main subject. I wanted to display the hat in natural lighting so that the bright colors of the hat could pop out and make a nice contrast with the base navy blue color of the hat. I wanted to do this by putting the hat on a platform and lower the aperture so that I would get a blurred background effect that would bring emphasis on the hat. I feel that I did not draw the viewer's eye because the hat brim is in focus more than the base of the hat. This leads to viewer looking at the thin curved brim that leads to nothing in the picture. Also, the black platform doesn't add or compliment to the hat so it feels unnecessary and distracting. The foreground is brought into high detail that also takes away from the hat. The background is messy and has different colors that would be distracting. I can fix these problems by making sure that the foreground, middle ground, and background work in unison to compliment the main subject I can change my angle or position so that the main part of the hat is in focus and the viewer knows what they are looking at.
